Crazy coasters

 

I didn't use a pattern with these coasters, I purchased a templet set off Amazon, cut a backing out of material to match the binding I had made. Cut a lining piece using an old blanket I keep just for doing this.  The front is made using fabric scraps from other things I have made. All material from JoaAnns.  The four coasters are about 9 inches square.

I plan on making more of these as I love using the fancy stitches on my sewing machine and I can make them in any colors or to go with the seasons or holidays.

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY The Famous "PURITAN" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Article 40
2 balls White, Cream or Ecru
Approximate size of doily: 21 inches in diameter or
The Famous "PURITAN" STAR SPANGLED MER­CERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Article 40
5 balls Silver Spangle or color of your choice.
Approximate size of doily: 25 inches in diameter.
Steel crochet hook No. 7

Chain (ch) 6, join to form a ring, ch 6, double crochet (d c) in ring, * ch 3, d c in ring, repeat from * 5 times, ch 3, join in 3rd stitch (st) of ch.

2nd Round. Slip stitch (sl st) into loop, ch 4 (counts as 1 treble crochet [tr c]), 4 tr c in same space keeping last loop of each st on hook, thread over and pull through all loops at one time, * ch 5, 5 tr c cluster st in next loop (5 tr c cluster st: 5 tr c in same space keeping last loop of each st on hook, thread over and pull through all loops at one time), repeat from * 6 times, ch 5, join in top of 1st cluster st.

3rd Round. Sl st into loop, ch 4, 2 tr c, ch 2, 3 tr c in same space, * ch 3, 3 tr c, ch 2, 3 tr c in next loop, repeat from * 6 times, ch 3, join in 4th st of ch.

4th Round. Ch 4, tr c in same space, 1 tr c in each of the next 2 tr c, * ch 2, 1 tr c in each of the next 2 tr c, 2 tr c in next tr c, ch 3, 2 tr c in next tr c, 1 tr c in each of the next 2 tr c, repeat from * all around ending to corre­spond, ch 3, join.

5th Round. Ch 4, tr c in same space, 1 tr c in each of the next 3 tr c, * ch 2, 1 tr c in each of the next 3 tr c, 2 tr c in next tr c, ch 4, 2 tr c in next tr c, 1 tr c in each of the next 3 tr c, repeat from * all around ending to corre­spond, ch 4, join.

 I  needed more napkins and found a cute pattern off the internet ( link below).   I made them for the seasons like Valentines for February and St Patricks for March, etc. I like flowers so for some months I just used flower patterns with a solid backing to match

Row 1   2 sc in 2nd chain from the hook, * skip 1 ch, 2 sc in next chain, repeat from * across the row, chain 1, turn.

Row 2  * skip 1sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * across the row, ch 1, turn.

Repeat row 2 for the pattern until square.

I have decided to start posting the lace sampler to my blog. This sample has been an on going project on my knitting and crochet list since mid 2018. I will post a new stitch each month for at least 16 to 17 months or more. Hope you enjoy it. You will find each new stitch under the heading for Lace Stitch Knitting Sampler and listed below this posting are the past stitches.  

Materials Needed

1 row counter

2 stitch markers

1 pair Size 9 knitting needles 

Red Heart Designer Sport weight yarn two or more skeins in a very light color so that the stitches will show up nice.

1 U shaped cable needle

Knitting notes: Please read all directions first before starting the Lace Project.

1.   I am using 3101 Ivory. It is easier to see the stitches using a light color.

2.   I use a U shaped cable needle with the stitches, they do not fall off as easy as the other kinds.

3.   The multiples of lace stitches being worked between edge stitches will be different for each lace stitch, the edge stitch markers will be moving through out the lace project. So please remember to remove or add them as I say in each lace stitch pattern.

  

4.   All patterns start on the right side of your knitting, if your next pattern does not start on the right side, knit one more row.

5.   I will try and add a new stitch each month until the end of the project. At this point, I do not know when this  will end. I am up to
lace stitch 18. I have posted four so far. (see below).
